Breadsticks

These are similar to the breadsticks from popular chain Italian restaurants

Breadsticks

Equipment

Pre-heat Oven to 400°F

Ingredients

Dough

  • ¾ cup Warm Water
  • 1½ tsp Instant Dry Yeast
  • 2 cups Bread Flour
  • 1 tbsp Melted Butter
  • 1 tbsp White Sugar
  • 1½ tsp Salt

Topping

  • 2 tbsp Melted Butter
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp Garlic Powder
  • ⅙ tsp Oregano

Procedure

  1. Combine sugar, water and yeast and set aside to allow the yeast to bloom
  2. Combine the water mixture with the flour, salt and softened butter in a stand mixer and knead until a sticky, wet dough forms
  3. On a well-floured surface (the dough should be very wet and sticky), split the dough into 8 equal sized balls
  4. Form the dough into round pieces about 6-7 inches long on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, then cover and allow to rise for about 45-60 minutes
  5. Bake in a 400°F oven just until they start to brown (about 10-15 minutes). Putting a cold baking sheet on a rack just below the rack with the breadsticks will help keep the bottom from getting too crispy; the breadsticks will come out soft all the way through
  6. Remove the breadsticks from the oven and immediately brush with melted butter. Dust with the salt, garlic powder and oregano toppings and serve warm
