Naan

These are simple naan, intended to be baked in a high temperature pizza oven.

Pre-heat Pizza Oven Base to 650°F+

Ingredients

Dough

  • ½ cup Warm Water
  • 1½ tsp Instant Dry Yeast
  • 1 tsp White Sugar
  • ¾ tsp Salt
  • 2-2½ cups Bread Flour
  • ½ Cup Yogurt or Sour Cream
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1½ tsp Salt

Topping

  • 2-4 tbsp Melted Butter
  • 1 tsp Minced Garlic (optional)
  • ½ tsp Parsley

Procedure

  1. Combine sugar, water and yeast and set aside to allow the yeast to bloom
  2. Combine the water mixture with the flour, salt, yogurt and olive oil in a stand mixer and knead until a sticky, wet dough forms. Add additional flour as needed to get a tight dough to form.
  3. On a well-floured surface (the dough should be very wet and sticky), split the dough into 6-8 equal sized balls
  4. Allow the dough to rest, then flatten into a round shape about 4" in diameter. Cover and allow to rise for about 45-60 minutes
  5. After they are allowed to rise, carefully stretch them out to the final shape (about 6-8" in diameter).
  6. Bake one at a time in a hot 650°F+ pizza oven just until they start to brown (about 2 minutes per side).
  7. Hold in a warm oven until ready to serve. Brush with melted butter, garlic and parsley.
