Biscuits
This is a simple biscuit recipe that makes about 4 biscuits. The dry mix can be prepared in bulk ahead of time.

Equipment
Pre-heat Oven to 425°F
Ingredients
Dry
- 1 cup AP Flour
- 2 tsp Baking Powder
- ¼ tsp Baking Soda
- ¼ tsp Salt
Wet
- ⅔ cup Buttermilk
- 1 tbsp Butter
- 1 tbsp Shortening
Procedure
- Combine the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl.
- Chop the (chilled) butter into fine cubes and then add to the dry mix along with the shortening.
- Using a spoon or your fingers, pinch the dry mix into the butter and shortening until a meal-like consistency is formed.
- Add the buttermilk and mix lightly until a dough forms. Adjust the buttermilk to taste - anywhere from ½ to ¾ cups. Using ⅔ cup brings typical results.
- Press the dough into a biscuit cutter on a baking sheet, then lightly dust each biscuit on the top with flour. Smooth out the top of the dusted biscuit.
- Repeat until all of the biscuits are formed, dusted and smoothed out.
- (Optional): brush a small amount of melted butter on top of each biscuit.
- Bake at 425°F for about 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
