Hot Pepper Relish (Chow Chow)

This is an easy to make crunchy hot pepper relish that goes great with hot dogs. Made with fresh peppers, it can last a long time in the fridge.

Hot Pepper Relish (Chow Chow)

Ingredients

  • 2 Onions, Chopped
  • 3 Hungarian Wax Peppers, Chopped
  • 2 tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Celery Seed
  • 1 tbsp Ground Mustard
  • 2 tsp Turmeric
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Cayenne Pepper, Optional
  • Vinegar, to cover

Procedure

  1. Chop the Onions and Peppers, then combine with other seasonings in a lidded container.
  2. Cover the mixture with a mild vinegar (e.g. Rice Wine Vinegar) and refrigerate.
  3. Chill the relish in the fridge for at least a week.
